Central Cafe in Lester Prairie

The Central Cafe in Lester Prairie, MN with high tin-covered ceilings, big-old high back booths, each with a mirror on it's wall end. Why?(You can speculate why.) Good farm-inspired menu, down-to-earth employees, the aroma of fresh bakery coming from the kitchen, and, you have to love'em mismatched old dining room chairs around each table in the open center area. Nana and I love these simple, plainspoken towns and experiences. It's life in the North Central U.S. After our lunch we toured the old hardware store next door and bought just a couple of small things. This is Peter's Pumpkins, a vegetable stand we stumbled onto while sightseeing the western Twin Cities towns. We weren't looking for pumpkins, but their sweet corn was perhaps the best I've ever had anywhere. Great tomatoes too. Such a good experience that we went back and bought more stuff a couple weeks later. Turns out that the owner of this vegetable stand is the aunt of one of college-aged hike...

Farmkids to Heart of the City - Burnsville

Our South-metro Twin Cities family has recently discovered Burnsville Minnesota's "Heart of the City area, a thoughtfully planned and developed urban park with wonderful water features, tasteful landscaping, and a well equipped performing arts center. Now two things I'm not sure about, but here's what I'm, guessing....that the project got a huge federal grant during the 1980s or 90s to do something nice with the old landfill/dump that used to occupy that same space. That's my guess, I'm sure Nana could google it and set me straight. Anyway, the Farmdottas took me and their Farmkids there today for a wonderful, relaxing day of picnicking, splashing in the clean stream, and playing in the fountains. Great summer day, for sure!

Anna & Max at Rambling River 6/5/10

Vivi and J were away, so Nana & I took Meaty and Banany to Rambling River, Petco, Half-Priced Books, and Culvers, occasionally coping with rain and puddles, and having fun exploring. Papa loves Big trees, and always wants a picture of them, such as will fit. . As the weekend rain intensified we moved indoors to do craft projects, like painting and moon sand creations
