Papa got a grand old office to retire in

Our home office has always been in the basement, because the rest of the house, whether St Paul or Lakeville was dedicated to bedrooms and bathrooms for our family of six. Now that the kids are in their own houses, Nana proposed that we move the office out of the cold basement and two floors up to Heather's old bedroom. So we disassembled the 1940's govt-surplus wooden desk that was my dad's until his death, in 1950, and then my mom's until hers in 1968, hauled the components upstairs, and reassembled it in the wonderful former bedroom which looks out over the heavily wooded back yard. Armoire from Kady's St. Joe Mich cottage, Williston chair from my seven years there, 1956-62 Magnetic white board to help with my organizational challenge Happy memories of my six years at Paragon Favorite toys and family memories Amazing privacy because of the trees, and a great view of the landscaping that Nana has largely single-handedly planned, coordinated, or executed, with i...

Matt's Grand Day

Grand Day is one of the high-points of my academic year with our Farmington grandkids. Meadowview Elementary puts on a fabulous program each year for the Grands, whether Grand parents other Grand relatives, or Grand Friends. There are about 10 pictures in this post, so be sure to scroll down if you want to see all. The songs they did included the presidents from Washington to Obama and the the ABC's forward and backwards. Many songs were punctuated with intended surprises which kept the packed house rolling in laughter and loving approval. With clipboard in hand, First Grader Matt gave us a tour of the entire school, his room, his locker, his desk, his reading ability and his writing progress. Gramma Moorlach drove from South Dakota to be part of Grand Day too, bless her heart! Plus, he bought us lunch! Papa Loves Grandday each year at Meadowview Elementary(Photo by Nana) Menu: Turkey, potatoes & gravy, milk, roll, corn, fruit, ice cream YUM!

Papa gets new perspective on zoo

I hadn't seen the zoo's dressup room before this visit there with Meaty, Bananz, and Vivi but I came away impressed with the zoo's appreciation of how much kids like to dress up and pretend they're adults......or animals. Bananz & meaty had a great time putting on veterinarian smocks and various animal costumes, and also trying to walk around in flippers. It's definitely as much or more fun than just looking. I just hadn't thought of a zoo providing that kind of experience before. So I learned something about kids....by going to the zoo. Smiling aboard the bronze tortoise Meaty and Bananz discover flippers aren't easy to use on dry ground Young Vets Bananz as tiger Meaty as brown bear
